Thomas F. Mahoney, PE, brings over 45 years of civil engineering experience, with a distinguished career spanning both public service and private consulting. Until his retirement from state service in 2021, Tom served as Director of Airport Engineering within the Aeronautics Division of MassDOT, where he held the role of Chief Engineer overseeing all engineering initiatives across 35 public-use general aviation airports in Massachusetts. One of his most notable accomplishments was the creation and execution of the Statewide Airport Administration Building Program, which delivered five new administration buildings—each ranging from 3,500 to 5,500 square feet and averaging $5 million in construction value—at airports throughout the state.
In addition to his leadership in public aviation infrastructure, Tom has provided engineering services on a wide range of civil and transportation projects, including runway and taxiway reconstruction at regional airports, service road rehabilitation at Westover Air Reserve Base, and improvements for the Massachusetts Turnpike, such as toll booth renovations and interchange lighting. His private-sector experience includes site design for commercial developments and residential subdivisions.
