Abdalla Shalaby, PEng, PE, IntPE
Principal Engineer, Geostructural Engineering
Abdalla Shalaby is a Principal Engineer at Reliance Engineers with over a decade of specialized experience in geostructural engineering, focusing on the design and construction oversight of deep foundations and complex earth retention systems. His project portfolio spans major infrastructure works across Canada and the United States, including transit facilities, high-rise developments, bridges, and heavy civil projects.
Abdalla’s expertise includes the design of temporary and permanent earth and water retention systems, such as secant and tangent pile walls, soldier pile and lagging walls, diaphragm/slurry walls, sheet pile walls, and shotcrete shoring systems. He also has extensive experience in deep foundation design, including drilled shafts (structural caissons), micropiles, driven piles, and helical piers—particularly in conditions involving complex soil-structure interaction and groundwater considerations.
His approach blends advanced analytical techniques with practical constructability insights, ensuring cost-effective, site-specific solutions that meet both performance and regulatory requirements. Abdalla has led geostructural design efforts on projects involving significant logistical constraints, including excavations adjacent to live transit lines, existing utilities, and sensitive structures.
Known for his collaborative leadership, technical rigor, and commitment to quality, Abdalla consistently delivers high-performing solutions tailored to each project’s unique geotechnical and structural challenges. His work continues to support the successful execution of critical infrastructure projects throughout North America.
